I recently emerged from 9 days of film festival, the 19th Annual Sedona International Film Festival. A huge event for Sedona. The town was alive, vibrating with the kind of creative energy that becomes palpable when creatives from all over the world come together bringing the best they have.
Through the voice of independent film we share ideas, we share passions. If we allow it, we connect with others in intimate ways, deep and profound. Some present technical expertise, telling a story that ignites our senses, taking us to places to date only imagined. Some make us laugh, inspire hope, bring awareness to people and places out of our view. We are reminded of what we share in common, the vicissitudes of life that challenge and uplift us. We see tragedy and if we are listening, we hear the call to action.
Today we can sit in each others backyard and never leave the house. We are growing evermore connected. Technology has brought many gifts. I visited Patagonia and the Himalayas. I took teaching from a revered Tibetan Rinpoche. I saw imaginings I could only call genius. I saw passion in the human spirit that could explode the heart. I was moved, opened, inspired and expanded. I laughed. I cried. I believe I left a better human being.
Thank you to all the people that come together to make this festival happen. Thank you to the artists and the patrons. Thank you to sponsors big and small, the volunteers, the staff and the board of directors.
I hope to see you all next year!
