“Follow the Peace Trail” September 2019
Follow the Peace Trail throughout the month of September with a series of free events focused on peace – peace in our hearts, peace in our world. In honor of “Peace Day 2019” we will share guided meditations, music, discussions, ceremony and inspiration as together we reflect on creating a more peaceful and compassionate world.
“Peace Day,” or the International Day of Peace, is observed around the world. Every year on 21st September, the United Nations calls on all nations and people to put down their weapons and reaffirm their commitment to living in harmony with one another. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace.
“We want to create an opportunity to reflect on these ideals together, to consider who we are in a world at peace,” says local peace advocate Shey Khandro. In conjunction with Goldenstein Gallery’s citywide art exhibition, “Every Day Peace,” we have scheduled a series of free events focused on peace. These events include guided meditations, conversation and the inspiration of the arts. Together we will focus on building our own personal peace practices.
Each gathering will acknowledge some of the many local organizations in support of peace through their everyday practices. There will be opportunities to educate and inspire each of us as together we pave a path to peace.
The Peace Trail offerings begin on Sunday, September 1, 11:30-1:30 pm at Aumbase Yoga & Sound with a guided meditation by Shey and chanting and sound healing with Sanjali (Valerie Irons). At this event we will discuss aspects of sustainability, composting and reducing plastic use in the home. We will also honor the valuable work of Twice Nice/Verde Valley Sanctuary.
Monday, September 2 will be the first in a series of 5 live stream meditations focused on cultivating our personal peace practice. Each Monday morning in September from 9-9:30 am we will live stream meditations lead by Shey Khandro from the Goldenstein Gallery.
Friday, September 6, 5-8, we continue our reflection at Goldenstein Gallery with the “Every Day Peace” artist reception.
Please join us as we seek to empower peaceful solutions, cultivate compassion and inspire action one small act at a time.
